New to Anglican worship?

 

It all started when…

Archbishop Thomas Cranmer compiled the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) and sought to recover the church’s ancient heritage of regular prayer beautifully saturated with the Bible. He was convinced that the Scriptures “ought to be much in our hands, in our eyes, in our ears, in our mouths, but most of all in our hearts.” So he created a framework, though Morning and Evening Prayer, for people to pray together regularly, shot through and fuelled by the Bible.

John Wesley wrote: “I believe there is no liturgy in the world, either in ancient or modern language, which breathes more of a solid, scriptural, rational piety than the [Book of] Common Prayer.”

The Anchor stands in this centuries long Anglican heritage using material derived from the BCP for our Sunday gatherings.
